Lesson 0: Introduction

Nuance is a self-portrait. This is a newsletter recording my journey through business school as I learn about leadership. Each week will add to a mosaic of meaningful moments that will shape who I become on this journey.

My mission is to increase representation of Black leaders at the executive, investor, and board level. Throughout business school, I want to learn how to be a good leader. My plan is to pursue Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) by raising money to buy a business and lead it once I graduate. ETA would instantly allow me to increase (by one) the number of executives, investors, and board members who are Black.

My vision is to leverage my influence as a Black business leader to pursue economic justice. This means that owning a business will allow me to provide access to economic advancement for those employees who are often marginalized. The racial wealth gap is widening, and it will only stop (and hopefully) reverse as leaders decide to protect those most vulnerable.

My values are to act with love, humility, and wisdom. Constantly asking myself “Is this loving?” “Is this humble?” “Is this wise?” will keep me grounded on this journey. These are the values I learned from my family, and they will guide how I spend the next 100 weeks.

Finally, I want to thank you for thinking enough of this invitation to accept another email in your inbox. If you believe I am missing an important lesson on leadership, then please let me know. I am listening.

This is the Introduction to Nuance. Next week, I will share Lesson 1: Self-Awareness.
